How to Successfully Move Your Business to a New Location

semi truck with trailerThere comes a time in every entrepreneur’s life when they have to move their business. Whether this is because you need more space, are changing locations, or because of a global pandemic, sometimes your circumstances mean you need a change of scenery. When this happens, it can be overwhelming! What do you need to do to make sure your clients can find you and move with you? How can you successfully move to a new location?

Understand How Laws Affect You

The first thing to know is how business laws affect your move. If you are going across county or state lines, for example, the rules might change. If you’re moving out of your original state, you need to apply for a new business license. If you are moving to your home, you need to tell your local licensure with your government offices that you’re planning to do so. It’s important to make sure all your local governments know and give you any further information you need.

Transport Your Equipment

Whether you’re going a short distance or a long one, you want to be able to move your business equipment safely. Whether your business is with computing equipment or with heavy-duty machinery, you want it to get to where it’s going safely! Transporting oversized loads represents a niche in the trucking industry. Make sure whomever you hire to help you is licensed and bonded for the work you need and insured in case of any mishaps.

Notify Everybody

This is a big deal. It’s important that all of your clients, and even those who are your suppliers, must be notified of your move, even if it’s not far away from your original location. You don’t want anyone to think you’re not in business anymore, and to go elsewhere! Regardless of the reason for your move, it must be promoted as an optimistic, positive choice for your business, because it will be both of those things. Along with email, promotional information on your social media sites, and general promotion, you might consider a local news release as well.

Your business move can be efficient and well cared for, just as you’ve always done for your business itself!  There are just a few extra steps involved. When those are handled, you can know that your business is once again in excellent hands in its new location—yours.
