4 Home Renovations That Are More Complicated Than You Think

Homeowners often ponder what areas of their house would look like if it underwent a renovation. People imagine how wonderful the finished product would be and how spectacular it would look to all of their visitors & guests. However, what homeowners don't often realize is the lengthy, complicated process renovating truly is. There are several areas of the house which can be renovated to fit modern standards or simply update it from older styles. Four renovations that are more complicated than you might think are renovating a kitchen, driveway, bathroom, and backyard.

Renovating a Kitchen

When people decide that they want to renovate their kitchen, they often don't realize the investment that it requires. Fully renovating a kitchen includes a fairly large budget & considerable time without ordinary kitchen items. Making the decision to renovate a kitchen should include a well-calculated thought process with a set list of pros and cons. Also, when creating a budget, you should always calculate in extra cash because sticking exactly to the budget doesn't always go as planned. Next, be prepared to survive without all of the luxuries you currently have and use on a daily basis such as a microwave, oven, or even a fridge. Renovations usually include these items.

Renovating a Bathroom

Bathrooms are a tricky renovation project because the area may seem small, but it is filled with a number of tricky plumbing fixtures. Also, the work of renovating bathrooms is usually meticulous. For example, tile work is fairly difficult to master. Bathrooms can be complicated projects. When it comes to installing new fixtures like a shower or sink, leave it to a licensed professional. Water damage is a serious liability for your home's future value.

Renovating a Driveway

Making the decision to renovate a driveway might sound easy, but be prepared for a labor-intensive project. Driveway renovations involve concrete or asphalt which are generally expensive depending on your location. Also, it requires many hands on deck for a professional finish, which means it is going to be expensive to pay those contractors. Taking out the old driveway and replacing it with the new one is a multi-day project which affects a lot of people involved as well as the invesment.

Renovating a Backyard

Backyard landscaping projects seem completely reasonable until you start one. If you don't establish a set timeline, it may never get completed. Things will come up and you may become busy and ultimately put off finishing it because no one usually sees it. Backyards are a complicated renovation to see to fruition. When it comes to picking your backyard projects, know where your abilities and time-commitments are so you can finish the project without calling someone halfway through.

No matter what you decide to do for your renovations, make sure that you do your research ahead of time so you don’t end up in over your head. Nothing is worse than starting a project and not being able to finish it or having it look shoddy. If you are using a contractor on your renovations, make sure that you don’t hire anyone who promises more than they can deliver or who is trying to scam you! Look for licensed and insured contractors for ALL homeowners projects. And if you need homeowners insurance, reach out to our office.
