How Employee Health is Related to Productivity

Your employee’s health is crucial to their productivity and the longevity of your business. A rested, energized, and happy workforce always equals a productive workforce no matter the size of the company. This guide will go over several ways employee health can impact productivity and what you can do to improve it today!

Overall Wellness Equals Overall Success

Overall wellness can also be described as “holism.”  According to VeryWell Mind, holism refers to treating the whole person and, instead of solely considering the physical symptoms of a disease or illness, practitioners also take into account the mental, emotional, and social factors that might also be contributing to the patient’s ailments. Your employee’s overall wellness includes things like their diet, sleep schedule, and the amount of stress they accrue at work. When employees eat well, they have the fuel to finish their tasks and stay sharp throughout the day. You can help by minimizing the amount of sugary drinks and snacks around the office. Replace any unhealthy office snacks with vegetables, water, tea, or other energizing yet healthy treats.

An article in Forbes offers some simple yet impactful tips to help minimize your employees stress levels. Try to reduce the amount of interruptions an employee experiences. When the employee is able to concentrate on their work, they feel a sense of accomplishment and won’t worry about having to get it done later. Minimize their stress by providing well-known deadlines when possible and running a tight ship. You want every employee to have adequate time to finish their tasks so they can focus and do their best. Finally, encourage your employees to complete their work at the office so they can rest and relax at home. You want them to arrive each morning with a fresh outlook, so they don’t burn out.

How Exercise Helps the Body and Mind

Exercising is great for your muscles, but it’s always extremely beneficial for your mind and overall productivity. Exercise can reduce cortisol levels which is essential for lowering stress. It can also improve posture and joint pain which will allow employees to sit down for longer periods when working on a project. Encourage your employees to exercise whether through job benefit programs or with group outings. Pick a nearby park and have a company event with leisurely walks or other outdoor activities. HubSpot gives examples of 10 different exercises your employees can perform at work. If you can encourage your workforce to stay active outside of work, you’ll likely see a rise in productivity at the office in no time!

Vacation Time

Try to provide your employees with enough vacation time so they don’t feel stuck in their career. You want them to feel like they matter, and nothing is bleaker than never having enough time for a quick getaway. By encouraging them to enjoy their lives, they’ll want to stick around to help your company grow. The worst thing you can do is make them dream about quitting, and that’s what will happen if employees don't feel valued. By following these tips, you can improve your employee’s health and guarantee an increase in productivity today!
