How to Invest in your Employees and Improve Company Culture

teammates hi-fiving

A company is only as healthy as its most satisfied employees. When companies shift to investing in their employees a bit more, they can quickly see business benefits. Not only in the bottom line but also in how employees and staff react to customers.

Here are a couple ways that you can invest in your employees and help your business grow.

Happy Employees = Healthy Company

More than half of workers say that they would take a job they love over one that they hate even if the pay weren’t as good. One of the hardest things for business owners is keeping employees happy without driving up exponential costs.

An employee who is happy within their company will stay there as long it aligns with their personal growth. Be sure to keep your employees happy by engaging with them, by making them part of the company culture, and by asking for their input often. Just improving the communication to find out what goals are being pursued is a great first step.

How to Boost Employee Engagement

One way to ask for input for employees and to encourage engagement from them is to use surveys. This will help you see from their perspective and how they want to communicate their goals. The key is to use surveys that are coming from the employees’ perspectives with the goal of giving the employer understanding and knowledge about how those employees see the company's issues.

Many surveys use the Likert scale, which offers five answers for each question: strongly agree, agree, neutral, disagree, and strongly disagree. This is a good way for you to engage things like how the employees see the company's growth and how the employees see the company competing in their industries. A Likert scale can also tell you how satisfied employees are with their jobs and where they think they need to grow. Be sure to ask good questions to really understand your employees and to ensure the survey provides a value to you from a management perspective.

What Can Happen

When employees feel happy and engaged in the workplace, they give more. They want to be more present and more involved in the process of seeing the company be successful. Your business will benefit from taking the time to ensure that your employees are happy employees who view the company in a healthy way and who have a good work-life balance. Another great benefit from a happy workforce is they want to share it, and will try to find opportunity to bring their inner circle into their workplace. This can provide exceptional opportunity for growing with minimal investment into HR and sourcing motivated talent.

Not only will your company benefit from an investment in your employees, but as the business owner, you will also benefit from these positive aspects of your employees being happy. You will find that everyone’s stress will decrease, and your productivity in your business will increase.
