Your Agent: Adequate or Amazing?

Is your current agent a true consultant or just another agent? Most agents revolve around the policy itself, and their behavior proves this. The agent generally calls you at renewal and works with you on completing applications and marketing your insurance, then you probably won’t hear from him until next year’s renewal. This kind of agent most likely uses reputable carriers, has a first-class service staff, and does a basic job of protecting what you value most, your family’s assets. Is there another way to work with your agent? 

In a competitive industry, we are seeing more pro-active agencies providing their services all year long and not just at renewal. An agent that can save you money is great, but would you find more value in an agent that provides claims information, stewardship, loss control and true risk management? Would a pro-active approach to risk management make a difference in your business, as opposed to the reactionary approached used by many insurance agents? 

When your agent approaches you with a pro-active and consultative approach, the true winner is the insured. Shopping the cheapest policy is not always your best choice. A pro-active agent who truly understands your business will be able to show you the value of the right policy and not just the least expensive premium. 

The consultative relationship becomes a better relationship; the agent and the insured now have mutual respect and an understanding of each other’s goals, and in the end, everyone wins!
